Wedding Photographer Limburg: Wedding Reportage at Auberge de Rousch and Rolduc Abbey

When you think of weddings, you rarely think of a winter wedding. Most wedding reports I get to capture take place from April to October, with an occasional Christmas wedding. Just like this time at the wedding venue Auberge de Rousch in Heerlen.

This January wedding was very special for me because not many couples get married in winter. I started early (I'm definitely not a morning person). I was at the doorstep of the bride's parents at quarter past eight. Behind the closed curtains, preparations were in full swing.

The bride was already dressed, and her hair was done. Meanwhile, her sister and best friend were getting their makeup and hair done. The bride's mother was at the hairdresser, and the father remained unperturbed, calmly reading his newspaper.

The dress was brought down by the father and daughter and admired by everyone. Then began the "dressing of the bride," one of my favorite parts. The dress was fastened at the back with ribbons, always the most beautiful dress to photograph, if only because closing it takes a lot of time and is often repeated. She got dressed with her sister. The father helped her into her satin wedding shoes. There was absolutely no stress.

The groom arrived in a particularly beautiful suit, somewhere between blue and green in color, blending wonderfully with the winter colors and the classic dress. A lovely moment when they saw each other for the first time, while the friends sat on the bench and observed.

Then the rest of the family came in, the boutonnieres were pinned on, and then they had to get into the sister's Fiat 500 with that enormous wedding dress. It was fun to watch. The ceremony then took place in the Kersentuin (a kind of conservatory) of Auberge de Rousch in Heerlen. The neighbor concluded this civil marriage in a particularly personal way.

Afterward, there was an honor guard outside, and congratulations were jubilantly exchanged. From the civil ceremony, we drove to the church in Landgraaf (Nieuwenhagen) for the religious ceremony. This was musically accompanied by a brass quintet and a colleague of the groom.

And who was sitting right in front of the church? Lot, the girl who was allowed to wake up Domien during Serious Request. Very funny, such a celebrity in church.

After the church, the whole party returned to Auberge de Rousch to cut the wedding cake and toast. Subsequently, we took group photos outside, and then it was already time for a romantic photoshoot of the couple. The sun was low, and we took some beautiful backlit portraits here. The remaining posed photos were taken at Rolduc Abbey in Kerkrade, mainly in the beautiful library but also in the staircase and on the avenue with (bare) trees.

From Kerkrade, we returned to Heerlen, where the wedding dinner took place in a atmospherically decorated room at Auberge de Rousch, accompanied by a lovely speech.

Around six o'clock, I bid farewell to this lovely couple, and they continued the evening with their friends and family.
